The South Aisle

The wooden panels on the south wall were originally part of a pew for the Wombwell family, whose emblem was the unicorn, which also features on the ceiling above.

Opposite the wooden panels is a pew which bears the arms of the Bosvilles and is over 500 years old. This may have been the site of a significant tomb at an earlier stage, note the double vaulted roof, carved pillar edge and hinge pin for a gate to the tomb area.

Further along the south wall is the Window and memorial for the son of a former rector, killed in France in 1915, together with his original wooden cross.

“What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matthew 16 v26

Lord , in this busy world where there is so much emphasis on money and material things, help me to pause a while with you and get my priorities right again.
